biography

I was born and raised in Wyoming, a state where there are as many people as there are pronghorn antelope. When I was younger, it seemed like everyone wanted to leave Wyoming--including me. As an adult, I realized that my home state was my first love. Through all my moves and travels, I have always found my way back home to the West. Growing up in a small community in Wyoming taught me a lot: I learned about resiliency, hard work, finding pleasure in the little things, and the stigma that can exist around asking for help.

My formal education began when I received a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Wyoming. After school, I spent many years gaining experience because I was determined to learn beyond the classroom. I completed two internships through the University of Chicago at Illinois working with children with behavior disorders. I also worked with individuals with intellectual disabilities, older adults in care facilities, and adolescents in residential treatment. It was through my work with adolescents in residential treatment that I saw the connection among trauma, addiction, and mental health. I also saw the importance of working with the whole family in order to create lasting change. So, I decided to become a family therapist. I received a master's degree in marriage and family therapy from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a certificate in medical family therapy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

In addition to my passion for helping adolescents and their families, I am also passionate about couples therapy. I have worked with couples in multiple settings, including a community clinic, community college, rehabilitation hospital, and private practice. I am interested in helping couples and families to work through trauma, addiction, relationship issues, and major health events.

In my free time, I love being in nature, singing and writing music, drinking coffee with friends, and spending time with family.
